The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type Might Solve This

As any significant honors show draws close, there’s always an outcry to include additional classifications to acknowledge unsung work and delight the passions of fans who have specialized interests.

A fellow writer has already made supporting a scary games classification. It would be amazing. The same goes for board games, this being a dedicated supporter's campaign. However, I must insist when I prioritize since similar to single-minded supporters, I have a cast-iron argument backing this proposal is the most urgent and significant. The demand is this: It's essential to create a classification for brain-teasing titles.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Classifying creative works isn't exact; it remains highly personal, and typically start arguments resulting in unclear classifications. This explains why cinema institutions steer clear of genre categories. However, it represents a necessary evil in the world of interactive entertainment, which are so diverse it's challenging to consider them one unified medium.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of gaming accomplishments to gain proper attention, and to ensure all game types to have a chance for representation, genre categories are essential.

Current Gaming Award Categories

The major gaming awards currently feature award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Together, these six categories effectively encompass a lot of ground, making space possible for numerous titles.

Different situation exists for logic-based experiences. There’s simply nowhere to put them. Consider three of this year’s best games, each quite distinct: the architectural riddles from a specific release, fast-paced pattern recognition of another game, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles in another game. Where could they possibly go among existing types? Simply put, no category fits.

The Representation Problem

Many instances occur excellent brain-teasers released every year without proper recognition in entertainment awards, unless they happen to qualify award groups including Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, and the highly challenging independent game categories.

  • A renowned logic title wasn’t nominated for anything that year
  • A different innovative game was excluded that year
  • Popular arranging title got ignored that year
  • Limited numbers of puzzle games managed to sneak into independent or mobile categories

Importance of Logic Titles

Frequently they represent small games, yet the craft in brain-teasers is of massive significance. Famous handheld logic titles stand as most engaged experiences worldwide and have been for many years.

The legendary block-stacking game competes with famous sandbox experiences competing to become most purchased experience; it also contends as greatest title ever. Puzzle games are foundational within interactive entertainment, and engaging across multiple categories.

The Solution and Justification

Logic titles wouldn't face that issue. One could readily select five nominees with fascinating, diverse, deserving games each ceremony simply — actually, with challenge, given the need to exclude numerous deserving experiences.

Restating the point, these are games that otherwise have no home in important events. Brain-teaser creators function at the demanding boundary game development, producing among essential manifestations of the video game form. Similar to cinema stunt performers, they merit acknowledgment. Don't make them wait generations.
